If you are a young person or senior citizen male or female just getting into archery first of all welcome to our great sport that so many of us love. Today I would like to share some important tips I learned over the last twenty plus years of archery hunting and shooting.
It does not matter what kind of bow you use long bow, re curve bow, compound bow or crossbows it is all archery and that is the great thing about it. One thing about archery you need to do is practice, practice, practice to be a good archer.
Lets talk about the compound bows today. There are many great manufactures out there but the most important thing when getting into compound bows is to go to a archery pro shop and get a bow that fits you properly everyone has a different draw length. Also you do not need to have the best bow made to be a good archer and you do not need to pull 70lb draw weight all that heavy draw weight does is tear your shoulder up in the long run. I shoot a Reflex bow at 53lb and can hit the bottom of a plastic bottle at 50 yards. And it has no problem passing through a deer. I have taken many deer with this bow.
But once you get the bow that fits you then it is time to get your arrows aluminum or carbon it does not make much difference carbon has a little more kinetic energy but make sure they are quality arrows not those cheap ones you find in stores like walmart, kmart, and they are cut to proper size. Sights if you choose to use sights there are many different kinds of bow sights on the market but in my opinion pin sights are the best sights to get started with but again it is what you are comfortable with. And then there is your arrow rest again many different kinds I recommend a whisker biscuit they are so much more forgiving. But again it is your choice.
Releases there are many different kinds of them out there as well it is what you are comfortable with I recommend the free flight release from Winn archery these releases make pulling back a 60lbs bow feel like it is only 50lbs but it’s your choice. But the most important piece of your equipment is your broad head do not be cheap here. Buy a quality broad head and make sure you keep them sharp it does not matter how good your bow or your other archery equipment is if you do not have a good quality sharp broad head your equipment is worthless believe me on this.
Once you get your setup ready it is important to go out and shoot every day I recommend at least 50 quality shoots a day that means to me within 3 to 4inches from bulls eye and you do not need to start from 30 yards away start 10 to 15 yards away and as your confidence grows move back 5 yards or so. Like everything else technic plays a big part in being a good archer and there are many ways to learn this. From experienced archers, books, videos, and trial and error. Please enjoy the sport archery and I hope these few things I learned over the years helps you out.
Texas is synonymous with goose hunting. Unlike other states in the northern region, the weather here is very kind to hunters, both, during the fall and the spring seasons! Additionally, there is the option of guided goose hunting in Texas. As a sports hunter, you are free to go in for hunting on the major waterways and lakes, or hunting in the fields.
Before opting for guided goose hunting in Texas, it would be advisable to do a little research–
(1) Since the state offers a variety of hunting options, figure out what it is exactly that you want and select a good guide. This could prove to be a wonderful learning experience!
(2) Guided goose hunting in Texas is controlled by seasoned hunters who have years of experience behind them. They use a method called “by the gun” to dictate their fees for services rendered. Whether you are going as an individual or as part of a group, each one is charged separately. Depending on whether the hunt is just for half-a-day or a full day, a flat fee has to be paid by each individual. There are guides who go in for weekly rates, but demand clarity regarding everything before you shell out a whole lot of money for an entire week of hunting.
(3) Guided goose hunting in Texas is always to be booked in advance; so the guide is also booked in advance. Your guide, like a few others, may also offer specific supplies and equipment for the hunt. They generally include clothing that act as camouflage or white suits that blend with the surroundings. In fact, camouflage clothes vary according to the weather since it can be quite unpredictable. Of course, these accessories are charged separately, they are not part fo the price paid for the hunt.
(4) It is up to you to decide whether you want accommodatoin included in the hunting package or not. Most of the experts have their own arrangements with the lodges concerned regarding hiring out of services to visitors. Some guides actually own the lodges. Some of them have reached an agreement with local motels and hotels that lodgings offered for guided goose hunting in Texas will be at reduced rates. Yes, this definitely adds to the expense, but also brings the convenience of being close to the location when you have to go for an early morning hunt. Lodging facilities can be found in isolated or remote places (lodges and chalets) or nearer major centers.
(5) What if you cannot go for the hunt after all? Or the hunt itself does not take place? Reasons could be varied–the flock of geese does not arrive when you expect it and you cannot afford to wait for many more days, the weather is too bad for a hunt, either you or your guide is suffering from health problems, and so on. Since your guided goose hunting in Texas has been booked in advance, you are naturally worried about a refund. Like mentioned earlier, check out refund policies also before you do your booking. Are you entitled for a refund? What if the weather conditions do not permit the hunt to take place? Can the dates for the hunt be preponed or postponed if the birds migrate earlier or later?
